How Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway fits into the pantheon of Disneyland dark rides
Runaway Railway is a throwback to classic Fantasyland dark rides with a mix of cutting-edge technology seen in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Avengers Campus.
By BRADY MACDONALD
PUBLISHED: January 25, 2023

“Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway debuts on Friday, Jan. 27 after a series of employee and media previews this week as part of a reimagined Mickey’s Toontown that returns in March.”

“Disneyland’s newest addition isn’t a truly new ride. The East Coast version of Runaway Railway opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in March 2020, just a few days before the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered Disney theme parks around the globe.

“Runaway Railway is a throwback to classic Fantasyland dark rides with a mix of cutting-edge technology seen in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Avengers Campus.”

“The trackless train cars in Runaway Railway follow in a single file behind a steam engine operated by Goofy — but the cars are not connected together. This means the individual cars can and do take off on their own journey throughout the ride — much like the trackless ride vehicles in Rise of the Resistance.

“There are other similarities to the groundbreaking Rise of the Resistance attraction that clocks in at an astonishing 18 minutes. The Runaway Railway ride vehicles dock into a port like the finale in the epic Star Wars attraction where riders watch scenes unfold on domed screens similar to the effects seen on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.”

“We’ll keep this mostly spoiler-free, though at the end of the article there is a video with on-ride footage! If you want to be surprised, skip the video at the end, but for everyone else curious about the brand new attraction, be sure to watch!”

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway Debuts at Disneyland with $20 Individual Lightning Lane Pricetag
Jan 27, 2023

“Despite Runaway Railway being the newest ride, it looks as though Disney will be pricing it a bit lower than that other E-Ticket.

“This morning (January 27th, 2023), an ILL purchase for the ride was listed at $20 each.

“Meanwhile, the Genie+ service was set at $25 for the day (the Disneyland Resort’s base price) while Rise of the Resistance ILL was also priced at $25.”

Review: ‘Wondrous Journeys’ is everything a Disneyland fireworks show can and should be
Review: 'Wondrous Journeys' has the makings of an instant classic that will keep audiences coming back for more.
By BRADY MACDONALD

“The new ‘Wondrous Journeys’ looks at artistic expression through the lens of Disney animators from the past 100 years. Scenes play out from every stage of the animating process through the ages, from line drawings and background illustrations to computer-generated imagery and special effects.

“Standing mid-block on Main Street USA, the fireworks seemed much more focused on the Sleeping Beauty Castle with fewer skyrocketing blasts than past shows. The pyrotechnics appeared more layered in both depth and height.

“Ultimately, “Wondrous” races through 18 songs in 13 minutes while paying tribute to every Disney animated movie ever made.”

Review: ‘World of Color — One’ is a rare Disneyland dud that lacks energy and power
Review: The quiet, contemplative and mellow nighttime spectacular feels more like a Zen meditation than a triumphant celebration of 100 years of all things Disney.
By BRADY MACDONALD

“Quiet, contemplative, thoughtful and mellow are not the words that typically come to mind when you think of bombastic and vibrant Disney nighttime spectaculars — but that’s the best way to describe ‘World of Color — One.’”

“The biggest disappointment of ‘One’ is that ‘World of Color’ has never looked better from a technical standpoint, with sharper projections, a sparkling Incredicoaster lighting package and brilliantly colorful fountains.”

Disney’s new ‘World of Color — One’ is unexpected and different — and that’s the goal
'One' delivers an inspiring message, works from a larger palette and paints a picture audiences haven’t seen before on the massive 'World of Color' canvas.

“Disneyland’s entertainment team wanted ‘One’ to be starkly different from ‘Wondrous.’

“While ‘Wondrous’ covers all of Disney animation, ‘One’ purposely pulls from the vast catalog of Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel films.”

New Storyline Details Revealed for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
by Kevin Rafferty, Jr., Communications, WDI

“At a young age, Tiana developed a deep passion for cooking, and began to dream of one day owning her own business. Her father, James, taught her that good food brings folks together. One of the most exciting parts of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is that we’re going to see where Tiana’s life has taken her following the success of Tiana’s Palace, a restaurant she had dreamed of owning and worked so hard to make come true.

“Walt Disney Imagineering is creating an original, next chapter story for Tiana. Within the attraction queue, guests will discover that she continues to grow her business with Tiana’s Foods – an employee-owned cooperative. Combining her talents with those of the local community, Tiana has transformed an aging salt mine and built a beloved brand.

“The endeavor began when Tiana purchased the salt mine and the area surrounding the large salt dome it operated from. With the help of her mother Eudora, Naveen, Louis and fellow owners of the cooperative, Tiana revived the old salt mine and the surrounding land, growing a wide array of vegetables, herbs and spices for her recipes.”

“Picking up where that story left off, Tiana continues bringing people together with Tiana’s Foods, another treasured meeting place to spend time together and celebrate a diverse community. Tiana is also working with cooperative members to teach gardening and cooking to children of all ages, and inspiring other women to run successful businesses as the brand grows nationwide.”

Disneyland to restart All-American College Band after putting 50-year-old program on hiatus
Since 1971, the Disneyland All-American College Band has performed in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle and along Main Street U.S.A. with signature selection of dance moves that made the group a fan favorite.

“A Disneyland tradition for more than half a century that brought the sounds of trumpets, saxophones and drums marching down Main Street U.S.A. has come to a sudden end with the abrupt cancellation of a beloved college music program.

“The Disneyland All-American College Band program that has been an institution at the Anaheim theme park for more than 50 years will be going on indefinite hiatus, according to social media posts on the band’s official Facebook and Instagram accounts on Friday, Jan. 27.

“The band typically performed five days a week for 11 weeks throughout the Disneyland resort with 21 students from colleges and universities around the United States, according to DAPS Magic.”
