In Disney’s fourth fiscal quarter ending Oct. 1, the Walt Disney Co. reported its Parks and Resorts division that includes Disneyland and Walt Disney World experienced a 10-percent decline in attendance, year over year. Disney does not divulge attendance numbers."

Disney moving security checkpoint in Anaheim to include Downtown Disney

"Disney is moving one of its security checkpoints so that Downtown Disney is pulled inside its secured area.

The move was expected to be completed by year’s end.
...
Guests would be checked as soon as they left the Mickey & Friends parking structure before boarding the tram toward Downtown Disney.

Two other checkpoints are set to be added: one of them will be between ESPN Zone and Rainforest Cafe and the other between ESPN Zone and Earl of Sandwich restaurant. Officials said these would likely service guests coming from the hotels.

Officials hope the change will make it easier for guests: They could leave Disneyland or Disney California Adventure for Downtown Disney, a shopping and restaurant district, and return to one of the parks without going through a checkpoint for a second time.
...
The checkpoint on the east side of the parks, near the Harbor Boulevard entrance, is not moving for now."

FAA gives Disney permission to fly drones for fireworks shows

"Aviation authorities have given Disney theme parks in California and Florida permission to fly drones above their venues for nightly fireworks shows.

Low-flying flights over and near the parks, including those with drones, have been generally banned by federal officials since after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Further, using drones for non-recreational purposes requires Federal Aviation Administration approval."

Semi-autonomous drones approved for use by Disneyland and Walt Disney World

"The drones would essentially serve as giant screens or programmable fireworks. In theory they could supplement or even replace existing light shows, fireworks displays, or even parade balloons. The drones would be programmable and semi-autonomous detecting each other to stay in formation, even forming pixels in a giant TV screen in the sky."

Haunted Mansion Headstones Return to Disneyland Park

"It has been fifteen years since we last saw the original headstones fill the hillsides at the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland park. Claude Coats, Marc Davis and X Atencio are just a few of the masterminds behind the Haunted Mansion whose whimsical headstones disappeared."

Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion returns Imagineer graveyard

"How does it feel to complete one’s quest, obtain the grail, discover gravity? I may not know, but I do know how it feels to have my personal mini-quest resolved. For years now I’ve privately worked with people I knew in the Disney organization to get my grandfather’s honorary gravestone at the Haunted Mansion, which served as his credit for the attraction, restored. About two years ago, I took that campaign public with a post on this blog. Then just a few weeks ago, I was told to keep an eye on the hill. I sent a few minions to the park to check and low-and-behold, there were a host of new gravestones back on the hill, including one for ‘Cousin Victor’ aka my grandfather – Vic Greene."

DCA & Disneyland Resort Area Photo Update: A Holiday Transition

"At the Mickey and Friends parking structure they have started construction on the Pinocchio parking lot as it will become an expanded tram loading zone for the added persons expected for Star Wars Land opening. The route will be moved so that it continues through the structure a little longer and comes out near where the exit row for Pinocchio lot is now, creating a square with a new inner plaza and reconnecting back with the tram route where Loading Zone 4 is on the tram route creating a wider square and 5 Loading zones. The two zones along the back of current station (Zones 2 and 3) will be going “backstage” for Tram maintenance and parking yard."

Disneyland Photo Update: Holiday Fun & Security Additions

"Mickey & Friends Parking Structure

A new ongoing project at the Mickey and Friends Tram stop. A new Western Gateway is underway at the structure. This will be similar to what is being created at the new eastern parking structure. Security checkpoints will be moved out here.

To accommodate this the tram stop and tram route is being re-configured and part of the Pinocchio parking lot is being taken over/removed. Saturday they moved out the fences then removed the parking lot. They have also created a larger opening on the first floor of the parking structure, which we assume will be where the trams will pass through.

Main Street Electrical Parade Returns

We have photos of the current temporary tent that resides in the Ball Cast Member parking lot for work on the Main Street Electrical Parade floats. It looks like the tents will be used to store and refurbish the floats when they arrive in California from Walt Disney World, and while the Paint the Night parade units are still taking up room in the backstage float warehouse."
