Earl of Sandwich, Starbucks West and Sugarboo & Co. plan to close in January ahead of demolition work set to begin by Feb. 1.
By BRADY MACDONALD
UPDATED: January 17, 2022

"Three Downtown Disney businesses have set closing dates as the Anaheim shopping mall next to Disneyland prepares to undergo a major renovation that will see several stores demolished to make way for a new midcentury modern-designed addition.

"Sugarboo & Co. (Jan. 15), Earl of Sandwich (Jan. 27) and Starbucks West (Jan. 29) have announced their last days of operation at Downtown Disney, according to Disneyland officials.

"The former AMC Theaters along with Starbucks West, Earl of Sandwich and Sugarboo & Co. will be demolished as part of a multi-year project that will reimagine the Downtown Disney outdoor shopping center. Demolition work is expected to begin by Feb. 1.

"The Disneyland Monorail will close Feb. 14 to accommodate the demolition of the former AMC Theatres building in Downtown Disney. The Monorail is expected to reopen on March 6."

...

"The new Downtown Disney renovation project will be part of the existing development agreement with the city of Anaheim and is not expected to require as many city approvals as the canceled fourth hotel project.

"The latest renovations at Downtown Disney are not part of the recently announced DisneylandForward project that envisions theme park attractions near the West End of the shopping district."

Disneyland police blotter: December crime reports
Anaheim Police responded to more than 20 calls at Disneyland in December that resulted in some type of action taken by officers.
By BRADY MACDONALD
PUBLISHED: January 18, 2022

"The Happiest Place on Earth is also one of the safest — with police responding once or twice a day on average to the Anaheim theme parks that attract millions of visitors annually."

...

"Friday, Dec. 31, 9:16 p.m. – Brandishing a firearm, citation issued"

...

"Disneyland takes a comprehensive approach to security inside the theme parks and hotels, at the Downtown Disney outdoor shopping mall and along the pedestrian promenades with metal detectors and bags checks at security checkpoints, according to the Disneyland website. Disneyland security officers and uniformed Anaheim Police officers patrol the Disneyland resort property.

"To put Disneyland’s relatively low crime statistics into context, it’s important to understand how many people visit Disney’s Anaheim theme parks on a daily, monthly and annual basis.

"Disneyland and Disney California Adventure welcome the equivalent of a small city’s population with 78,000 visiting the parks on a daily basis, according to the Themed Entertainment Association/AECOM. That’s nearly a quarter of Anaheim’s population of 350,000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau."

Disneyland Update – The Return to Abnormal
By Lilliana Parker -January 17, 2022

"Ah, another long weekend. It’s a temperate winter day (though lately it’s been feeling pretty warm— not that I’m complaining!) and people will be headed to Disneyland to enjoy their extra day off. But unlike most holidays, both parks will close at 8pm tonight.

"Though Disneyland doesn’t necessarily feel busy these days, there’s always something going on. Today we’ll take a look around the resort to see the holidays melting away, the reason why Space Mountain had a 4-hour wait on an uncrowded day, check on construction projects, explore some big staffing issues, and much more."
