Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to open early, with a catch. Shareholders OK Iger pay
By Ryan Faughnder
Mar 07, 2019
"The massive, interactive attraction will debut at the Anaheim resort on May 31, Walt Disney Co. Chief Executive Bob Iger told shareholders Thursday at the company’s annual meeting in St. Louis. An identical planned attraction at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., will open Aug. 29.
However, the highly anticipated attractions will not be, to use Star Wars-speak, fully armed and operational when they debut. Iger said that one of the main draws, an immersive experience called Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, will not be ready for the public until later this year."

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to Open May 31 at Disneyland Resort, August 29 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
"That’s right – it’s debuting early because of high guest interest in experiencing this new, immersive land. On opening day for phase one, you’ll be able to live your own Star Wars story and take the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy aboard Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, sample amazing galactic food and beverages, explore an intriguing collection of merchant shops and more.
And for phase two, opening later this year, will be Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined that will put guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance and will blur the lines between fantasy and reality. In light of tremendous demand, Disney made the decision to open the land in phases to allow guests to sooner enjoy the one-of-a-kind experiences that make Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge so spectacular."

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Opening Date Set for May 31st at Disneyland
March 7, 2019
"As a result of expected demand, guests will need to make a no cost reservation to visit the land. Information on how to make that reservation will come at a later date. Most of our readers will likely be thrilled that they won’t need to wait in an epic line just to enter the land. We assume that MaxPass (and/or traditional Fastpass) will be involved somehow in the reservation for the land.
Fastpass and Maxpass will NOT be offered on the Millennium Falcon ride when it first opens. Rather than controlling the number of guests on the ride, Disney will instead focus on metering the number of guests in the land as a whole. It’s a system we applaud as it will allow guests to better interact with the elements in the land, use the Disney Play app, wait in reasonable length lines, and enjoy the queue immersion. This system is NOT expected to be needed at Walt Disney World when their land opens in August."

Find out what it will be like to ride Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland
March 6, 2019
“'You’ll notice that there’s a very temporary nature to everything out here,' said John Larena, Walt Disney Imagineering executive creative director. 'Basically the story we’re telling is the Resistance has set up shop here, probably in the past couple of weeks. Everything is ready to get swept up as soon as the mission gets called.'
...
A full-size X-wing with a blue pinstripe sits in the woods next to a red A-wing fighter. High-tech military gear is scattered throughout the forest and cavernous tunnels that serve as the ride queue. A towering crane moves a futuristic-looking light post into position, guided by construction workers.
...
Painters have aged the rock caverns forming the ride queue, adding stains to the ceilings where water has been dripping for centuries. The hand-sculpted rock work forms windows that offer peeks into Galaxy’s Edge and hints at what lays ahead in the attraction. The rock walls bristle with high-tech lights and communication equipment that give the sense visitors are heading into a Resistance compound.
...
Glowing holoscreens in the queue will show Resistance targets on a map of the “Star Wars” galaxy. The high-tech video screens will be juxtaposed next to niches carved into the stone walls by ancient civilizations."
